Philosophy Café
What is a Philosophy Café?
A philosophy café is a place to meet for people of all ages who have at some point in their lives wondered about the really big questions that man has asked since the dawn of time. Who am I? Why am I here? What should I be doing? Is there a God/Creator? Is there a right and wrong, good and bad? The answers to these questions are not easily found. Many people intuitively understand philosophy is the name given to the search for answers to this type of question.
Why is there a Philosophy Café?
The word philosophy means the "Love of Truth". The answer to the questions what is love and what is truth do not necessarily roll easily of everyones tongue. Yet everyone during their life has loved someone or something and everyone has knowingly told the truth. With a little observation of our fellow man it becomes obvious that everyone human being is a philosopher in some way. In the general hurly burly of life it is very difficult for most people to find time to attend formal philosophical studies. A philosophy café provides a low key, free and enjoyable format for anyone with a couple of hours to spare to meet with some kindred souls, discuss that which comes very naturally to most people over a cup of coffee, a glass of wine and perhaps some supper. What happens at a Philosophy Café?
A moderator will attend each café meeting and present a topic for discussion, together with some information about the topic for the evening. People attending the café will be invited to discuss the subject and interact with the moderator or other attendees of the café. Some people will wish to enter the discussion and others may be content to simply listen to the discussion. Both are fine. The moderators role will be simply to ensure proceedings continue smoothly and that no one person hogs the floor. Generous time will be provided for people to discuss subjects among themselves at their table. Although religion and politics may receive an oblique mention no preaching or politicking is allowed.
Who will be the moderator?
All moderators are experienced philosophers and each week there will be a different moderator(s) and He/She/they will present a different topic. The moderator is also there to assist with the answers to questions if required or simply to help the discussions over some difficult point. |

Astronomy
Group
A
small group of men has spent 2 years studying the available astronomy
knowledge together with the works of the wise down the ages on
astronomy. This group has studied Einsteins theory of relativity
together with some particle physics and compared this data with
the views gleaned from the exercise of contemplation. Concepts
from the "Urantia Book" have been studied in detail.
Further studies will take place as time permits.
|
|
|
The group also has planetarium software to assist their studies. This rich and diverse information, has enabled the astronomy group to fill in some missing links not just at the physical level of the creation but at the subtle levels also. This is not a group looking for another level of beliefs, but a group looking at all available data and their own experience to refine their level of understanding of the cosmos around us all. The group regularly puts on slide show lectures for the benefit of all students at the academy. |
|
The
Chakra Group
Primarily a group of ladies, but like most activities at AHD we
all help each other and so there are many inputs to this group.
The available data has been studied by this group and they have
found most data has been derived from a couple of sources, which
appear to disagree with each other in significant ways. Amongst
other things the chakras are the emotional centre in the human
being and this group has been studying their emotional response
to circumstances which happen in their lives and comparing notes
to best fit this information to the various chakras.
|
|
|
The chakras also have Sanskrit sounds and these are chanted in Sanskrit from time to time to assist in locating a particular chakra in the body. This study will continue until the understanding is full and mature. From time to time a presentation is given so all students can come up to speed in this important area of life. |
Development of Man
Primarily a specialization of the group studying astronomy, this group looks at the development of man and civilisations he has developed over the millennia.
|
|
|
Natural laws regulating the development of man have been applied to archeological data generally available to understand the points of development reached so far and the way he will develop into the future. All the past wise point out that man is a special creature with a particular role to play for a length of time. Much of this has been understood and work continues to refine the knowledge.
