An
Introduction to Classes
Class
Facilities
AHD
runs weekly evening classes with four terms per year of nine weeks duration.
These classes are held at the Salvation Army Conference Centre in The Basin beginning at 7.00 pm and finishing
at approximately 9:30 pm.
There is a break for supper. Classes coincide
with state school terms. Students are formed into small groups of approximately
6 to12 students with a tutor allocated for the term. These groups are
kept small to provide the students with ample opportunity to express
themselves and to interrelate with each other. Students within the groups
naturally begin to form friendships which continue as they progress
along the path of developing their full potential in happiness and inner
peace.

Format of Class Lectures:
The first priority at each class night is to allow the students to shed
any stress and unhappiness which may have accumulated during the week.
This happens with a short exercise, which promotes stillness in body
and mind.
The
tutor will then present one of several things depending on the circumstances
of the class as outlined below.
1.
Some information from the rich heritage of past masters in human development.
2. An exercise to assist students to develop
one or more of the senses.
3. The true role of emotion and love at
the students' current level of development.
4. The role of intellect, reason and intuition
in our lives.
5. An exercise of contemplation.
6. Information on the workings of the heart,
mind, intellect, being and the ego.
7. A quotation or reading may be looked
at and studied in detail.
8.
Some music will be played and listened to in quietness.
9. Information as to why I sometimes feel
stresses, angry and unfulfilled.
10. What role "desire" plays
in our lives and where desires are held?
11. How does habitual behaviour and memory
play out in our lives today?
During
the class, the students are frequently given the opportunity to speak
of their personal experiences in relation to the topic of the evening.
For example, with exercises on the senses, students will be given a
sense to use and class discussions will follow from that exercise.
